How are the scripts selected?
Young playwrights are selected through their own country representatives through a variety of processes. In countries with no representative, writers may apply directly to the Interplay Head Office in Brisbane, Australia.

Playwrights must submit an original play which will they will work on during base group sessions. This play should be an advanced draft, but the writer should be open to further developing the script.

The Creative Producers assess all applications. Playwrights are selected by the quality of their scripts and strength of their application. Decisions are advised by a number of criteria:

Writers should demonstrate:
• A unique voice.
• Ability to engage people with stories through the medium of theatre.
• A track record of writing for theatre and/ or significant potential to contribute to the theatre industry as a writer in their country of residence.
• An ability to represent the theatre industry in their region in forums and discussion.
• An interest in exchanging ideas about theatre practice and trends
• A willingness to be an ambassador for their country and culture

World Interplay 2009 will be conducted in English. While every effort is made to provide translation and support, delegates should be aware that some English will be required. Playwrights will need to supply a translation of their play in English in their application.
