 | THE INTERPLAY MODEL |
 | Interplay is committed to delivering a PROCESS driven festival that nurtures young playwrights. The Interplay Model is used at all Interplay festivals and the information below provides you with a description of the various creative activities Playwright Delegates and Tutors will participate in during World Interplay 2005.
Please read this information carefully as you prepare to attend World Interplay 2007. |
 | ELECTIVE WORKSHOPS |
 | Classes led by a Festival Tutor that concentrate on introductions to a topic, or an advanced class. Examples of previous Festival Workshops include: Working with a TV Script Editor; Why Choose to Write for Theatre; The Creation and Development of Character exploring the complexity and three dimensionality, journey and language of character. Workshops generally take place in the afternoon each day. |
 | BASE GROUPS |
 | Participants will be assigned to groups of 4 - 6 young Playwright Delegates and 2 - 3 Tutor Delegates. This groups remains constant, and work together each morning. Base Groups provide small group-reading and assessment workshops so that all young writers have their work dealt with in a secure and positive way. Writers control how their work is presented, what is presented and who presents it. Base Groups also discuss issues about writing, theatre, and Interplay. At the end of the festival, each Base Group makes a short presentation (performing sections of their plays, etc.). |
 | ONE-TO-ONE DRAMATURGY |
 | Aside from the attention the scripts receive in Base Group sessions, each Playwright Delegate is assigned a specific Tutor Delegate. The pair meet at an allotted time to discuss the playwright's script in detail. Playwrights are, of course, welcome to seek advice and opinion from other tutors. In some cases, tutors prepare written comments about the play which are given to the playwright during these sessions. |
 | PANEL DISCUSSIONS |
 | These are chaired discussions where key speakers make brief statements, followed by open discussion. These panel discussions might include topics such as: Making Theatre in Different Cultures, International Opportunities for Playwrights, Theatre in War Zones |
 | YOUR TOWN / OUR TOWN |
 | Each Base Group interviews a local Townsville person, and then over the second week of the Festival creates a ten-minute theatre piece inspired by that person's life. Playwrights work with Tutor Delegates to produce the ten-minute plays as a presentation for a Townsville public audience. |
 | CULTURAL PROGRAM |
 | World Interplay will have many opportunities to engage with the beautiful Townsville region, Australian wildlife, and to enjoy the laid-back atmosphere and social events on offer. The festival Opening and Closing ceremonies and numerous night-time outings are a chance to get dressed up if you want to, network, and meet the locals. And, of course, World Interplay will also have its own Festival Bar on-site to help get the party started each night! |
 | MAGNETIC ISLAND WEEKEND |
 | Following in the tradition of World Interplay 2005, delegates at World Interplay 2007 will also have the opportunity to spend a weekend on the beautiful Magnetic Island. With crystal-clear waters, bright, sandy beaches, and pristine natural landscapes, Magnetic Island can be anything you want it to be - an energetic, outdoors adventure with DJ's and beach-parties, or a laid back, relaxing getaway. In any case, Magnetic Island is the perfect way to unwind and unleash off the mainlaind.
