Interplay is a not-for-profit arts organisation committed to the development of young playwrights through process-driven initiatives that connect, nurture and inspire the global playwrights’ community.

Since its inception in 1985 in Sydney, Australia, every two years Interplay coordinates the largest international festival of young playwrights (18-26 years old), World Interplay.

World Interplay, for playwrights aged 18-26, is the largest international festival of young playwrights in the world. For two weeks every two years, fifty playwrights from thirty nations are joined by leading international directors and dramaturgs for two weeks of play development, workshops, forums, and cultural exchange.

Interplay has a network of 34 international representatives. Interplay festivals, using the Interplay model, also take place in Europe and Africa.

World Interplay 2009 will be the best global festival of young playwrights ever. Offering real opportunities to develop skills, exchange ideas and collaborate with leading international artists, it will attract the hottest emerging theatre writers from around the world. Brought together in Cairns Australia for two intensive weeks, these writers will be empowered to raise their voices, squeeze their hearts and unleash their intellect in this rigorous theatre-writing event.
